Top 8 Indian Binge-Worthy Web Series!

1. Kota Factory – The fifth web series from TVF Play, is mostly about the topsy turvy experiences gathered by IIT aspirant Vaibhav Pandey after reaching Kota, the complete educational hub of India. But that’s not to say Kota Factory and its breezy seasons celebrate, or even promotes our unbalanced education system. Or precisely Kota, the epicentre of institutional dream-selling. It simply displays the young characters who have chosen to drive through it. The entirely Black and White series demonstrates the stark monochromatic palette, which can be defined as an acknowledgement to the dull and tunnel-visioned two years of Kota’s 2 lakh teenaged IIT-Jee contenders and the day-to-day hardships faced by them. Imperative to mention that the characters like Jeetu Bhaiya and Meena has surely left a beautiful mark in all our hearts. Thus, this web series by Raghav Subbu is as magical as it gets.

2. Asur – Asur is India’s first mythological thriller and is directed and co-produced by Oni Sen. This fascinating mythological series puts two conflicting worlds against each other. The less explored sophisticated world of forensic science and thick mysticism of ancient Indian mythology by illustrating a deadly battle of wits between a psychopath killer and two forensic professionals. One cannot overlook Arshad Warsi and Warun Sobti’s outstanding acting throughout the eight episodes.

3. Khyapa – This Bengali language Addatimes web series is the first Indian series to be displayed in a B/W wash and tells the story of true friendship between Khyapa and Chingree. It showcases the sprouting teenagers craving for love, aspiration to live and free will, exploring the free spirit of madness in life. I loved the way how Director Korok Murmu has established the character of Shuorani played by a piglet and the scenes where he converses with Khyapa giving him true life advice. The series is a compact package of drama, romance, thriller, comedy and mystery and is a must-watch.

4. Mirzapur – This one is Amazon Prime’s third made-in-India original. Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani have undoubtedly managed to grab attention through this thrilling web series. The ride through all the episodes are smooth and attention bearing and Yogya is a good finale to this engaging series. Pankaj Tripathi has the local Don is incredible. Be it his character shades, mannerism or the way he delivers lines, it’s hard to not be in awe of him. Ali Fazal stuns us here. He is too good as an all vigour and no brain. His physical transformation and body language is extraordinary. All of these things concerned, makes this web series a 100% watch worthy.

5. Eken Babu – Again a Bengali language web series, this six-episode Hoichoi project is a comedy ride which will definitely give you a good time. The series is based on Eken Babu Shomogro, a Bengali detective fiction written by Sujan Dasgupta. Directors Anupam Hari, Anirban Mallik and Abhijit Choudhury has portrayed the detective world in a humorous mood when Eken Babu travels to Bangladesh and smells a mystery in a death caused by a heart attack. The story is gripping enough to sustain one’s interest.

6. Cartoon – This Bengali language psychological horror web series by Hoichoi tells the story of Cartoonist Aritra, whose life whirls upside down when bizarre things start happening in his new apartment. Mayhem follows when a paranormal activist dies abruptly. Director Sourav Chakraborty has finely managed to give us goosebumps and minor heart attacks in most of the scenes. So if you are somebody who thinks horror contents can be a cathartic way to deal with our fears without a psychologist, this series is for you.

7. Leila – This Netflix original series is the adaptation of Prayaag Akbar’s 2017 novel that follows a woman’s search for her daughter in a totalitarian society. The series directed by Deepa Mehta portrays the nearby dystopian future and will hold you till the end. Leila fills a longstanding void in the arena of Indian speculative fiction. The manner in which the women are framed, the powerful image of red uniforms against a drab background, the soft focus; it’s all very evocative. Dare I say, among all of these esteemed series I have mentioned, this one is my personal favourite.

7. Pataal Lok – After the family man and Mirzapur there was no noticeable Indian tv series from Prime. In these lockdown junctures came a remarkable thriller and noir murder mystery. This series is not for the faint hearts. The makers of the series have kept an eye for each and every element. Powerful Script, Well composed Screenplay with the admirable level of Acting. Superb performance from All Actors. Particularly Jaideep Ahlawat, Neeraj Kabi & Abhijit Banerjee. It is a slow-paced drama but Yes, if you’re looking for promising content It’s quite binge-worthy for you. It is one of the rare Indian series which leaves you satisfied and glad that you took the ride. Highly recommended.

Have a happy binge !!
